Meet The Maker:
Imogen Clifton, founder of I. C. Jewellery, designs and handcrafts jewellery from her little studio in Hamilton House, Bristol. She makes small batches of one-of-a-kind pieces. When she isn’t silver-smithing she is a freelance illustrator (www.imogenclifton.com).
Imogen fell into silver-smithing almost by accident! She was on an artist’s residency in India, working on an illustration project, when she saw a small jeweller’s workshop offering day classes. She decided to make herself a ring, as she’d always been fascinated by silver jewellery. Three months later – she had extended her trip and spent every day working away, sat on the floor, in her element! Her Indian teachers became like her brothers by the end of her time there.
“Jewellery making is very therapeutic for me. I find the simplicity of the hands-on tasks, from filing to hammering, immensely satisfying. There’s also something about the process of melting metals and playing with fire that I find completely captivating. This being said, the best part of the process for me is when you get to the polishing stage and bring to life a gleaming piece of jewellery.”
